Toddle Toddle

This week, my daughter decided that standing on the couch was a good idea. And her mom decided to scoot back a bit and capture the moment.

And thus, it is time to announce: my babe is now quite thoroughly a toddler. It's a remarkably difficult admission to make as it means I am walking at a much slower pace with a munchkin who insists on stumbling down the sidewalk clutching my finger. And man is my back achy from stooping over as I shuffle alongside her.

Accompanying the recent physical skills has been some serious brain work too. And so we are learning how to entertain a toddling bundle of curiosity.

Which means, supervising explorations conducted with an unsettling lack of fear.

As she was climbing through this hanging maze at the Franklin Institute, a father used her fearless example to encourage his elementary school aged daughter to go through too. "Look honey, the baby isn't afraid! You should try it too."

Probably not the wisest decision making strategy. I mean "If a baby was crawling toward the edge of a bridge, would you jump too?" just doesn't have the right ring to it. But, hey, this is the Franklin Institute not a bridge, so let's go!

Then again, I do give her toys when she's strapped onto my back, knowing full well of the inevitable minor collisions between skull and aforementioned toy.

But that's what it takes to entertain a toddler. Or at least what it takes to entertain them long enough to have more than one coherent thought in a row.
