Goodness, where does the time go. Then again... my time with free hands is dwindling as the Otter's digestive track processes through her last meal.
To catch you up on what life is like in the Lui household, here is a typical day. Every three hours or so, the Otter demands sustenance, so I've given you a general 3-hourly schedule as if the feedings were actually this regular and not sometimes 1.5 hours apart and sometimes 4 hours apart. Because, you know, it's nice to pretend that things are easier than they are.
Midnight - 50/50 chance that Otter is asleep or willing to fall asleep. New rule: avoid all eye contact and she is 90% more likely to go back to sleep.
3am - One of us is definitely awake now and both of us are probably fussing. Man may get woken at this point if mom runs out of ideas for how to calm the cries--i.e. she's changed the diaper twice, fed her, tried a pacifier, and attempted to soothe her in the rocking chair.
6am - All are asleep, but give it a few hours and the Otter shall be awake and ready to play. And by play, I mean stare. So far Man and I find her wakeful hours a little dull because whether we sing or read or chat with her, she solitary response is a stare. And while sometimes our eyebrows transfix her gaze, she usually prefers the ceiling or our bed's head board as both provide very nice dark on light contrast. This is also the time when Mama will be starving and will consume first breakfast from the snacks we've conveniently left on the second floor.
9am - Time for second breakfast and then for Mama to catch up on sleep.
12noon - Lunch time. Usually Mama thinks she can eat first while the Otter sleeps, but in reality, the Otter wakes up after the first bite. And is hungry. So, in order to avoid the hanger (angry hunger), Mommy lets her food grow cold or soggy and feeds the munchkin first.
3pm - More snacking. Possibly some wakeful time for the Otter, probably not.
6pm - Dinner! Man lovingly feeds his wife spoonfuls here and there as, yet again, the Otter has decided she is hungry just as Mama sits down to eat. After all are fed, the parents snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie or a few TV episodes. The Otter may or may not be allowed in on the snuggles.
9pm - Mama tries to go to bed. The Otter decides that she now wants to be awake. An hour later, the Otter is finally tucked in--either to the Ergo on Man's chest or in her bassinet.
Midnight - Rinse, repeat.
