Man is very concerned for the health of both BabyOtter and me. So, on occasion, he plans activities that both elevate the heart rate, but not at dangerous levels of exertion for 1.5 people to handle.
One of our recent activities was a lovely hike somewhere in the Poconos. The great navigator that I am, I didn't think to print the directions from the website he sent and instead relied on Google Maps. Google Maps, sadly, does not know the difference between "hiking" and "hunting" sections of state parks, so we ended up at a trail that wasn't quite what we were looking for.
But, we thought we were okay because we found some form of waterfalls to hike to. That was the original plan, so the hunting detour didn't seem so bad after all.
Besides, the path didn't start out too badly.
Besides, we passed a family with two small kids and a stroller. They and their non-offroading vehicle provided some directions and suggestions for where to pick up the trail.
None of this prepared us for what was to come.
And then it got worse...
And worse...
Honestly, how far could that stroller have gone?
At some point, we decided that walking up uneven rocks seemed a little bit of a health hazard for a five year old and a pregnant lady. I am a proponent of bouldering--as is our child companion despite her father's protests--but this is a little extreme for a lazy afternoon hike.
On the way back down, we finally saw this:
Injured and killed? Goodness. What sort of state park allows murderous trails to continue on their steep and treacherous paths?
And, so, with the relief of having escaped possible death, we ended the day skipping rocks instead of climbing them.
