flowers in her hair...

Tonight was my last free night for the next two weeks, so to celebrate, I bummed around the apartment, ate ramen, started bringing to life my plans and schemes for the veil, and sang about San Francisco.

Yes, the person who has a full time job, two classes, volunteer work and the rest of the wedding to plan has decided to make her own hair accessories, too.  She also has decided to write run-on sentences.

It turned out to be pretty easy.  I cut up an old black satin scarf to practice these rolled fabric flowers.  Sadly, it's black satin and looks terrible in smartphone photos.

Attempt #2 turned out much less camera shy. It's rather close to what I have been planning to wear in my hair six months from now.  Except that it's the wrong color.  I considered a trip to Michael's to buy white ribbon, but a hasty glance at the clock warned me they were probably closed.

I guess I can wear the eggshell colored flower for other shindigs.  Or perhaps I'll pay homage to my parents' youth and start wearing flowers regularly.

After nearly twenty attempts, I finally got my phone and my head in an agreeable position with the mirror to immortalize a glimpse of it jerry-rigged to a bobby pin and shoved halfheartedly into my hair.  Just disregard the greasy, needs-shampooing, all-over-the-place hair...

It looks kinda lumpy right now--the flower, not the hair.  Okay, okay, both do.  I need to shower and then putz around with the ribbon.  And add things.  Like lace, feathers or random shiny baubles.  Because, let's be honest, everyone needs a wedding accessory that is a whiter, classier version of many a Las Vegas outfit.

All the same, for a 30 minute craft-blog taught flower, it's not too bad, now is it!  The first attempt at the veil did not turn out so well, so you'll have to wait a bit on that.  Thank goodness for a friend's brilliant idea to practice on cheap tulle.

Finally, for those who remain perplexed by the San Francisco comment, get your music education on.  Sheesh.

  2. For some reason "Flower in the Rain" by Jaci Velasquez was the tune that resounded when I first saw the title. TOtally not related, though, oops.
