Dinner time conversation

Hon and I have to discuss the guest list, so I came over for dinner. As soon as I walked in, Hon's dad greeted me with "May-can, you fly plane?"

I'm still not 100% sure what he was getting at, but I think he meant if I had a plane I could have been to dinner on time no matter what traffic looked like. That or the American dream has been updated and now includes plane ownership alongside the white picket fence and 2.3 kids.

There was also the story that started out about brined kumquats that ended with the statement: "Give a man money, no good." Not sure how, but brining kumquats teaches a man to make money.

"21 days." this is apparently the time it takes for turkeys to incubate. I know this because Hn's dad informed us as we watched a documentary on raising wild turkeys. And because a minute later, the show confirmed his outburst. Chickens also require 21 days, but ducks are the slower cousin. They take a full 30 days to hatch.

"May-can! I got good." Turns out he meant that one day he would get another 'goose.' My bad. This, my future father-in-law claims is his 'insurance' for the future. Should his money run out, he will farm and raise Chinese geese. Right. Except that I know this to be a fabrication, because Hon and I are his actual insurance policy. And someday these random dinner conversations will become part of my daily routine. At least I know I will always end my days with a little laughter and a little wisdom.
