Made in China

So...I bought a Kate Spade bag this weekend.  Yea, I know NameBrands are not normally something I talk about.  I already own a Kate Spade bag, actually.  It was purchased on insane discount at Macys because of it's high level of utility. (It was a diaper bag)

This bag is a fabulous shade of orange.  And has polka dots inside.

this photo does not do it justice.

This bag really is fabulous.  But...this bag also costs over $100.  I hem.  I haw.  As is par for the course, I texted the Ultimate Fashion Advisor.  She loves it just as I do--especially the polka dots.  I seek the man's opinion on the worthiness of a costly bag.  After all, our finances will soon be one in the same.

Hon has no idea what a purse looks like, so I bring it over to his house.  There, it becomes a serious topic of conversation ultimately revolving around the question: Was it made in China?  I google for background on Kate Spade manufacturing.  Hon searches Ebay and discovers that we could make a profit re-selling it.

I turn around to find the future father-in-law carefully inspecting the bag.

I announce a few minutes later that Kate Spade bags are made in Italy. His dad nods in response, having inspected the seams, strap, handles and zipper.  Hon smirks and translates his father's nod as, "The quality is too good for China."

There is a clear point of weakness, however, his dad insists. The shoulder strap is stitched to the inside and outside of the bag separately.  No good. Unless you are in the purse stealing business, that is.

Hon's mom joins in the examination. I have no idea what is being discussed, but they spend another 5 minutes going through the strengths and weaknesses of the bag.

She confirms Hon's snarky translation.  The zipper is the nice zipper.  China does not use the nice zipper.

The purse passed inspection; It wasn't made in China.  Well, theirs at least.  The bag is still sitting in the middle of my room, wrapped in the cloth protective bag it came with.  I am still hemming and hawwing.
